It is well documented the ill effects of drug & alcohol abuse, especially in an interior, tribal & Maoist dominated district like Kandhamal. Heavy work load for survival, struggle for existence, frustrated social lives due to treacherous law and order situation & multiple Maoist attacks, poverty and hunger are the main causes of drug addiction. Now this Kandhamal district is declared as Red-corridor of Maoists by Odisha police. Thousands of people of this district are addicted to ganja and alcohol resulting in poor health mental and psychological disorder and often broken families. We undertook Integrated rehabilitation centre for addicts(IRCA) programme for de addiction at Sankarakhol of Kandhamal district as the main mission of AABAHANA. In the F.Y.-2017-18, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India has started supporting our IRCA Programme run at Kandhamal district. Now this is an ongoing programme of MoSJ&E. We selected Sankarakhol for establishment of our IRCA Centre because it is only 22Kms far from district head quarter, Phulbani. One PHC is present at Gumagarh and it is only 5 Kms far from our centre. Another Community Health Centre(CHC), Khajuripada is only 20 Kms far from our centre. This khajuripada Govt. hospital is well equipped with all emergency life and health support facilities. Phulbani Dist. Head quarter Hospital is 22 Kms far from our centre. Our centre and campus immediately approaches to the Berhampur-Bolangir state High way. Our IRCA cantre is present at road side. Our centre is well equipped with some emergency life support instruments.We are running this centre since long. The cumulative figure of de-addicted persons are 540 in number and this year in F.Y.2018-19, we de-addicted 168 number of persons and given proper counseling and treatment to addicts. Out of 168, relapse cases are 17 and drop out 1 150 new addicts were de-addicted. This year we organized 240 group counseling, 1406 individual counseling, 718 family counseling in our IRCA. In follow-up action we sent letter to 515 ex-addicts, contacted 193 ex-addicts and 151 ex-addicts of our centre are maintaining drug free life as recorded by our IRCA. Majority of them are tribal people. In our centre we de-addicted persons in an innovative treatment system. Mainly yellopathic treatment is given, but for better effectiveness we administered anti intoxicant Homeopathic medicines. For body purification and Liver activation Ayurvedic medicine is also given. For psychological boosting we added meditation with yoga. Travelling cost of addicts also boarn by us. This year we organized street theatre for awareness in Khajuripada, G.Udayagiri, Gutingia, Sankarakhol, Phulbani Town etc.. We organized street corner meetings and distributed highly educative leaflets and pasted awareness posters at tribal villages like Tikabali, Raikia, Paburia, Sarangagarh, Nuagaon, Baliguda, Simanbadi, Daringbadi, Chakapada, Linepada, Katringia, Phiringia, Putudi, Gochhapada. We organized awareness public meetings in presence of DSSO, Kandhamal at Sankarakhol previously. We took part in celebration of International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking with district administration of Kandhamal district at Phulbani & state administration at Bhubaneswar on 26th day of June, 2019.
